I am currently working on Editing Certification!

Hi everyone,

Hope all’s well!

I wanted to let my blog followers and visitors know that my blogging frequency, as well as my Examiner.com column writing frequency, has slowed down due to my enrollment in an Editing Certification program.

I am taking the Editing program at the University of Washington here in my home area of Seattle, WA.  I’m very excited about the class and the possibilities it expands for my writing and literary opportunities! The program completes this August of 2013, so please hang in there with my blogging and column writing.  I’ll be working to get posts out once at the end of each month during this time.

Well wishes to all!

Nadia Riell Featured In Local Author Spotlight

I want to say “Thank You” to Kate Policani for inviting me to be featured in her recent Examiner.com spotlight on local authors!

This feature comes at a great time when I am about to launch my new environmentally themed ebook for children titled Eco-ABC’s-An ABC Book About Our World.  I’m releasing this as a free ebook in support of the idea that it’s never to early to teach our children how special our world is and the joy we can have in caring for it.

To view the article, please visit the following link to Kate’s column:

For more information on Eco-ABC’s, updates will be posted on the “My Books” page here on my website.

I wish Kate well with her column and books, and a big thank you to my followers and buyers of my books!

Excerpt from Inspiring Childhood, Inspiring Life – Perspectives on Love, Encouragement and Reaching Potential:

Living life whether you’re growing up, already grown up or also in the role of parenting, is certainly not a perfect science.  There isn’t a “one size fits all” formula to follow in order to achieve success or happiness, yet most of us want to achieve them.

Many times it’s short conversations or a just a few simple words with others, that give us the chance to share joy, success, encouragement and even help with lessons in life.

Those moments are what I had in mind with the collections in this book.  My hope is to offer a simple place to give, get and share inspirations about everyday choices.

The ideas and perspectives on these pages have come through observations, conversations and relationships; also through  diverse experiences, opportunities, trials and triumphs, both personal and otherwise.

If this book helps you to find and share a desire to know love, champion encouragement and seek potential, than it will have done what I’d hoped for in writing it.

Well wishes,

Nadia ~

Inspiring recipes for food and life at Worth Our Weight

There are good people, good food and good stories, with good fortune enjoying even one or two of these in a day. However if you are ever able to walk through the door of Worth Our Weight (WOW) cafe in Santa Rosa, California, you’ll be visiting a place that offers you all three. So here’s today’s good story about this very inspiring business.

Worth Our Weight Culinary Apprentice Program is a cafe and culinary education center offering a place for risk-challenged youth to find knowledge, training, camaraderie and working experience in the restaurant and related industries.  WOW equally gives an excellent opportunity for customers to enjoy an inspiring dining experience and rave review food when they sit down at one of the tables. Everyone from chefs to staff come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, yet bond through the service of the restaurant business in working together to make it a success.

The WOW program was founded by Executive Director Evelyn Cheatham, a 25 year veteran of the food industry. While developing a culinary training program for incarcerated youth in Sonoma county, she found the transforming power that a focus for growing, cooking and eating good food could have for troubled teens.  The idea for WOW was born and has since been giving life-changing experiences to crew and customers alike.

Innovative and successful programs have garnered WOW both local awards and national attention. In 2009 Evelyn Cheatham received the City of Santa Rosa’s Merit Award and was named Outstanding Community Service Individual. WOW then garnered national attention when it was featured on the hit Food Network show Diner’s Drive-In’s and Dives hosted by Guy Fieri. In fact, Mr. Fieri was so impressed with what the people of WOW were accomplishing, that through his foundation, he gave WOW a mobile mini-restaurant cart as an additional way for them to offer their foods to the surrounding community.

Worth Our Weight is an inspiring confirmation of the many different ways people can create and work together to make a difference in each-others lives and communities.  Success stories such as theirs invite us all to consider what we can do to help and inspire others in our families and communities, as well as ourselves.

Book Done!

Change in plans.  Teresa and I put The Islanders on hold until Spring 2012.  With it being more of a summer related book, an August release was too late.  Since my goal was to have a book for release this year, I decided to pick back up working on a book I’d started of inspirations that relate to growing through life.  After some long hours these past months, the draft was finally submitted for publishing today, yea!
